PRIVACY POLICY

Under the Privacy Information Protection Act (PIPA) you have the right to know your private information held by the Society and your rights.

Your consent to hold private information is obtained when you
  • Visit our website at sghsocietybermuda.org
  • Complete a Membership Application
  • Become a Committee Member
  • Become an Employee
  • Become a Donor
  • Conduct Tours of the Museum
  • Rent the Museum or Garden for an Event

We only collect and retain personal information when we believe it is necessary and we have a valid legal reason to do so, with your consent, and to comply with laws to protect your rights, or to fulfill our legitimate interests.  Information is held in an Excel spreadsheet and a Group Email Format.  Both are on a personal computer that is password protected. The Society will never deliberately share, sell, or otherwise distribute the information held to any third parties.

Disclaimer – Electronic transmission over the internet or information storage technology cannot be 100% guaranteed all files are secure, so we cannot promise that unauthorized third parties will not be able to steal or modify your information.

The information is used for a variety of reasons, depending on your relationship with our Charity, including:

  • To send administrative information to our members.
  • To send administrative information to our Committee Members
  • To maintain Employee Records and Work Schedules
  • To communicate with our donors
  • To communicate with tour operators
  • To communicate with event planners
  • To prevent fraudulent use of information
  • To save or protect an individual’s vital interest, such as to prevent harm.
You have the right to:
  • Review your information
  • Update your information
  • Have your information deleted in full, or in part.

To exercise any of these rights you must inform the Society in writing to our Privacy Officer – Evelyn Llewellyn, by email to ly***********@gm***.com.

We may request that you provide additional information to verify your identity before processing your request.  We will respond without due delay, but in all cases within 45 days.

Please keep in mind that requests to access, update or delete are not privacy complaints.

Privacy Complaints

If you wish to submit a complaint about  the use of your personal information you can write a letter than includes

  • Your name
  • A summary of your complaint or a written description of the specific circumstances
  • A summary of other steps taken, if any, to resolve this complaint
  • A preferred method of contact about your complaint such as mailing address, email address or telephone number
